Time to Bid Adieu to Allergy Myths
If you feel to sneezing, coughing and watery eyes in the spring or fall, you may have allergic rhinitis more widely known as seasonal allergies and "hay fevers" Many misunderstandings relate to seasonal allergies. Here are common myths about seasonal allergies.
Changing Your Location
At least once you heard it, but it's not true.
Seasonal allergies are the result of tree or grass pollen, weed pollen, and mold, which exist all over the country. If you try, for example, on a trip to a desert to escape seasonal allergies, you can only react to new grasses and weeds.
It is not likely that moving will lower your allergy risk. You would be much better talking to our allergy doctors in OKC about treatment options.
Local Honey
It sounds good, but it is wrong too. Using local honey does not help to prevent your allergies.
The concept behind the theory of honey is the same as immunotherapy. Local honey contains local pollen, and if consumed, the allergen will gradually expose your body to it. While honey contains local pollen, it does not normally come from the plant types to which people are allergic, which is a good placebo.
Allergy triggers trees, grasses, and ragweeds, which usually cause seasonal allergy, often retrieve its pollen from their flora. Immunotherapy is much more specific (such as allergy shots). You are exposed to allergens that trigger allergic reactions, and you are gradually increased to reduce your risk of being exposed to these allergens. Allergy Shots
In the last 20 years, the sophistication and fine-tuning of allergy shots have grown. Typically, shots are given to the most serious people. Shots are given. We have a much better chance than we did with your grandfather's allergy shots to use the right dosage of allergens. Day tablets which dissolve under the tongue as an alternative to allergic flares have recently been approved by the FDA but only for ragweed or grass pollens.
Medication Every Time
Allergies are inflammatory and can take weeks to achieve their effects. It makes more sense to use allergy drugs to control moderate to serious allergies consistently. People should know their allergy triggers and seasons and then regularly use medicine when pollens are in the air.
Flower Causes Allergy
In most people, flower pollens have no allergic reactions. Some people may react to blooming trees, but this is usually not due to cut flowers. Your specific allergen triggers will be confirmed by appointment with Arkansas Allergy and Asthma Clinic.
Although how you feel on a given day does not matter on pollen count, the prominent pollen in the air can be told you. By keeping in mind pollen numbers, you can understand better which days for outdoor activities are better.
